Lentil Soup (Fakes Soupa)

Lentil Soup.JPG

As you may have noticed in my photos, I enlarged the watermark and put it right in the middle of the photo. Up until now, I tried to have the name of my site somewhere that would not ruin the aesthetics of the photo.

Well, couple of weeks ago I found out that another site stole not only a recipe of mine, but also my photos as well and presented them as their own. Needless to say how mad I felt about this incident. I’ve been in the blogging community since 2008 and I always respected and still do so the copyright of everyone’s recipe I have cooked and wrote about it. Even if, sometimes, my recipe has nothing to do with the original one, I feel obliged to mention the source from which I was inspired.

This is the second incident that happens to me and so I decided to put my watermark in a spot, where it will be difficult for someone to remove it. I apologize for this, but I had to do something to protect my work.

Lentil Soup.JPG

I am a working mother and wife, who struggles every day to stretch time so as to be able to cook, take pictures and blog about it. I can tell you it is pretty hard sometimes and I feel completely drained out of energy. But then you visit and leave a kind and thoughtful comment and I say to myself that blogging made me meet so many wonderful people around the world, people who I wouldn’t have the chance to meet otherwise. And I keep going.

So, just like I respect and appreciate other people’s work, I expect the same to apply to me as well. Unfortunately angels are in heaven and this earth is full of cons and dishonest persons who try to exploit other people’s work for their benefit.

To sooth myself and comfort me I made this delicious, Greek lentil soup. I really enjoyed it with a slice of bread and a piece of feta cheese. The days here have been chilly lately and this soup was just the perfect remedy for my nerves and for the weather.

Lentil Soup (Fakes Soupa)

Ingredients

1 cup lentils

3 cups water

½ cup tomato puree

2 bay leaves

2 garlic cloves

1 tbsp sugar

½ tsp cinnamon

½ tsp nutmeg

1 tbsp balsamico

1 carrot, shredded

1 onion, chopped

2 tsp salt

3 tbsp olive oil

1/3 cup olive oil

Lentil Soup.JPG

Instructions

I make this soup in the pressure cooker so as to save time especially during the weekdays, but you can use any regular pot.

It will just take some more cooking time.

Put the pressure cooker in medium/high heat and pour the 3 tbsp of olive oil.

Add the onion garlic and lentils after you have washed them well.

Sauté for one minute and then add everything but the salt and the 1/3 cup of olive oil.

Increase the heat to high and when it starts to boil, close the lid of the pressure cooker and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

From the moment you lower the heat to low it takes about an hour.

Remove the pressure cooker from fire and open the lid after making sure that there is no steam on the cooker.

Put the cooker on the heat again and increase the temperature to medium/high.

Add the salt and olive oil and boil for three more minutes.

Serve warm with bread and feta cheese.

I am so sorry that your work has been stolen…I hear about more and more of these incidents each week. I think you’ve done a lovely job with your watermark…it really doesn’t take away from your photo, but does protect your images. And your soup looks just plain scrumptious!!!

Oh Katerina, I am so sorry for what happened to you…I can understand people not quoting recipes since there are so many out there and it is impossible to read them all, but using your pictures, this is totally unacceptable…and in a way very sad.
The lentil soup is sure a very comforting one…
    Cheer up my dear :)

love the beautiful shredded carrots in your soup and the delicious spices in it! i am the same about mentioning the source where the inspiration came from, even though my modifications in ingredients and cooking methods might actually be enough to call it my own. don’t worry about your watermarks… place it wherever you need to… it doesn’t take away from the beauty of your food. :)

MMmmm looks like the perfect comfort food! How can people be so crazy to think that no one will find out that they have stolen others hard work, considering how easy it is to find things on the internet. Terrible. I am sorry that happened to you! Your photos are lovely with the watermark.

Katerina, I’m sorry to hear about this incident. Thieves exist in both real life and on internet too, alas… I know it happens to many bloggers and I assure you, we are all used so much to the blog names on the photos, no one will mind or notice the difference! It’s the least we can do to protect ourself a bit (I have heard there are people who will remove these, but it requires a bit of work…). I also always cite blogs or books, even if they were only an inspiration (not to mention the exact recipe!).
Your soup looks delicious and the mixture of spices sounds very original. I love lentils and I love feta of course :-) I will bookmark it and prepare when the weather gets colder again (this weekend, I have heard). I hope this warming soup has cheered you up a bit!

  27. Love the soup, comforting is the perfect description. I am so sorry this happened to you, I am almost afraid to search the internet for fear that I will see that one of my recipes has met the same fate. It’s theft in it’s most blatant form.

I don’t blame you, Katerina. I used a watermark for a while, but decided it was too simple to photoshop it out and gave it up. But it doesn’t bother me at all to see it on other photos. Your soup photos are still very clear and mouth-watering.
My mother made a lovely lentil soup…haven’t thought about it in ages. This looks marvelous!

Hi Katerina, I can imagine how frustrating it is to have your recipes stolen. Unfortunately, not everyone has the same sense of ethics as you do, and furthermore, even more sad, that some do not even consider it stealing, which is what it is. I don’t mind the watermark at all! Keep your spirits high :)

That’s awful of those people to steal your work :( I hope that in the future these people will have more respect and find some creativity of their work! Lovely lentil soup though, I just have a question – what’s balsamico? Is that balsamic vinegar?
